摘要

The Panama Canal Authority announced that effective July 3, 2026, the maximum authorized draft for vessels transiting the Neopanamax locks will be reduced from 50.0 feet to 49.5 feet (15.09 meters) Tropical Fresh Water. The adjustment, based on current and projected Gatun Lake water levels, forms part of the canal's ongoing water-management strategy and will not affect the number of daily transits. For container lines operating Neopanamax vessels on Asia-US East Coast routes, the half-foot reduction translates to approximately 300-400 TEU of lost carrying capacity per transit. Shippers should factor reduced payloads into peak-season capacity planning, particularly as cargo front-loading intensifies ahead of July tariff deadlines.
