Panama Canal to cut daily transits to 34 from Sept 3, 32 by mid-September on low water

The Panama Canal Authority will trim daily transit slots from 36 to 34 from 3 September and to 32 from 15 September, with Neopanamax locks capped at nine sailings per day. Draft limits tighten to 48 feet from 2 September and 47.5 feet on 1 October. Carriers are already passing costs through: CMA CGM levies a USD 500/TEU Panama surcharge from 10 September and MSC USD 149/TEU from 12 September.
