The APEC Policy Support Unit's August 2026 Regional Trends Analysis finds freight costs on extra-Asia lanes have more than doubled since July 2025 on Shanghai-Los Angeles, with Shanghai-New York, Genoa and Rotterdam each up roughly a third to a half. Intra-Asia is mixed: Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai and Shanghai-Tanjung Pelepas surged while Busan- and Yokohama-Shanghai fell below baseline. APEC growth is forecast at 3.2% in 2026 after 18.8% first-quarter export growth, with capacity, fuel and insurance cited.
