Drewry's World Container Index dropped 3% to $4,255 per 40ft container in the 30 July 2026 assessment, the third consecutive weekly decline as demand softened following new US tariff measures. On the transpacific, Shanghai-Los Angeles fell 2% to $5,739 while Shanghai-New York held steady at $7,578; on Asia-Europe, Shanghai-Genoa slid 6% to $5,630 and Shanghai-Rotterdam eased 3% to $4,677. Drewry's Container Capacity Insight showed eight transpacific blank sailings scheduled for the following week, up from seven, and three on Asia-Europe, down from four, with carriers leaning on capacity management to slow rate erosion. Several carriers have announced Emergency Fuel Surcharges effective from August on the back of Middle East tensions.
