Freight payments fintech Relay Payments announced a strategic partnership with fleet management technology provider Platform Science, integrating Relay's digital payment infrastructure directly into Platform Science's in-cab Virtual Vehicle marketplace. The integration allows drivers and fleet managers to authorize, process, and track fuel, lumpers, and other over-the-road payments through the same in-cab tablet already used for ELD compliance and dispatch workflows, eliminating the need for separate payment cards or apps. The partnership addresses persistent friction in trucking payments — an industry where an estimated 40% of over-the-road transactions still involve cash or paper checks — and positions both companies to capture a share of the $800 billion annual U.S. trucking spend as the industry digitizes back-office operations.
