Chinese container manufacturers have moved to two-shift production to meet a surge in new-box orders driven by longer global turnaround cycles and a shortage of returning empties, CCTV Finance reported on 28 July 2026. One Ningbo plant said daily output had doubled from pre-May levels to between 500 and 550 boxes with production booked through November, while Ningbo customs data showed 64,000 newly built containers exported through the port in June, up 28.9% year on year. Reefer container exports exceeded RMB 10.5 billion in the first half; more than 95% of the world's reefer boxes are made in China, and one Qingdao producer reported first-half output up about 15.7%.
