Hormuz transits collapse over 95% by tonnage, Clarksons data shows

Clarksons Research reported on 24 July 2026 that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz had fallen back to near-closure levels, with only about 13 vessels a day transiting on 25-26 July versus roughly 88 per day before the conflict, a drop of more than 95% measured by tonnage. More than 70% of identifiable ships used the Iranian-side corridor and about one quarter went dark by switching off AIS; MarineTraffic logged just 29 verified transits between 24 and 26 July, of which only one used the traditional traffic separation scheme. Reuters, citing Kpler, said fewer than 10 commodity carriers a day passed the strait over the weekend.
