DP World has received two of Europe's largest quay cranes at its Southampton terminal, each weighing over 2,000 tonnes and standing nearly 150 metres high, as part of a 60 million pound expansion. A second pair will arrive later in 2026, bringing the terminal to 16 quay cranes. The new cranes can handle the world's largest 24,000 TEU container ships and support consecutive tandem lifts for two 40-foot containers simultaneously, improving productivity and reducing vessel turnaround times. DP World UK CEO Kris Adams said the investment strengthens Southampton's ability to serve growing UK trade. The terminal handled over 2 million TEUs in 2025, contributing to DP World's UK total of more than 5 million TEUs.
