The Port of Virginia CEO stated that the recently completed deeper harbor project now enables large vessels to be fully loaded, positioning the port to become the preferred US East Coast gateway and a central hub for container services. Separately, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), operated by ICTSI at the Port of Rijeka, Croatia, launched the new MSC Phoenix direct mainline service connecting the Adriatic to the Far East. The service rotation includes Busan, Ningbo, Shanghai, Shekou, Singapore, Ashdod, Haifa, Trieste, Koper, and Rijeka, with initial vessel capacities of 8,000-11,000 TEUs and plans to upgrade to 13,000+ TEU ships. AGCT CEO Inigo Mendibe noted the terminal now has two weekly direct services from the Far East, serving Croatia and landlocked Southeast/Central European markets.
