China's commerce ministry opposes reported US plan for extra 7.5% tariff on Chinese goods

China's Ministry of Commerce said on 27 August that it firmly opposes Washington's reported consideration of an additional 7.5% tariff on Chinese imports and reserves the right to take all necessary measures. Spokesperson Huang Ling said the US Section 301 investigation into 16 economies over alleged overcapacity politicises trade and is typical unilateralism and protectionism. Beijing published a position paper on the overcapacity issue on 28 July.
