A presidential proclamation on 18 August temporarily suspended 50% additional Section 338 duties on certain Canadian alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motor vehicles and parts due to start on 19 August. CBP later confirmed through its CSMS messaging that the suspension lapsed and the duties resumed at 12:01 ET on 22 August, covering roughly $20bn of Canadian imports. Importers had only a three-day window to clear affected entries.
